On Friday 1 April, SEMMA attended a Mini Careers Expo hosted by Empowered Women in Trades at Box Hill Institute (Lilydale), promoting our industry-led Welding Skills Short Course and career pathways in manufacturing.
Just 3% of tradies are women, which is why female cohorts are one of our four target groups eligible for our welding course – increasing the representation of female tradeswomen in manufacturing and helping meet the local skills shortage.

The event included some informal networking which led into a ‘speed networking’ event, in which participants had the opportunity to meet with employers one on one to hear learn about their business including:
- Currently available roles
- What employers look for in a potential applicants
- The best way to apply for roles
- Any tips of wisdom about connecting with employers in general.
The mini expo allowed EWIT participants and Box Hill Institute students to gathering information which would help empower them and their career choices, who are keen to pursue a career in trades.
Later in the year EWIT will host pop up shop at Eastland and Chirnside Park shopping centres promoting vocational pathways from 11th-14th of October.
