We are the strong, clear voice for manufacturers, able to participate in the ongoing regional and national debate regarding the critical need for an innovative and sustainable manufacturing community.
SEMMA is the peak industry association representing over 230 leading manufacturing companies located in South East Melbourne, Australia's most dynamic manufacturing region.
Our Vision
By 2030, SEMMA is recognised as the leading voice of advocacy and influence for manufacturing growth, innovation and collaboration.
Our Mission
To advocate for good government policy and decision making to keep manufacturing viable in a local and global context. As a professional association, it is our business to know everything about manufacturing. We make it our business to know what policy changes could impact industry performance, find opportunities and understand challenges faced by our members. We share this intelligence with members to give them the greatest chance of success.
Our Charter
- To influence all levels of Government in an apolitical manner, on manufacturing issues.
- To promote Members’ and regional capability both locally and internationally.
- To identify business opportunities and stimulate manufacturing businesses.
- To encourage collaboration between members.
- To collaborate with other institutions such as CSIRO, Universities, and government bodies.
- To commit to corporate, environmental, and social responsibilities.
A Stronger Manufacturing Industry Creates a Stronger Community!
At SEMMA, we recognise the importance of manufacturing and its place within the community. We want all members to be high achievers as this means manufacturing continues to grow and be the powerhouse of economic development for the region.
Studies have revealed that in manufacturing, for every $1 million in new or retained output, up to 6-10 equivalent full time (EFT) jobs are provided*. Therefore, the multiplier effects from the growth of any one manufacturer has the potential to positively impact the industry overall. A successful innovative and inclusive industry means the community will benefit from increased long-term sustainable careers, better wages and conditions for all.
SEMMA is managed by an elected Board of 10 voluntary manufacturing members who are leaders in their own specialties, plus 1 from education, and 1 from City of Greater Dandenong Business Development.
