Today, SEMMA were pleased to attend the Office of Defence Industry (ODIS) Forum on Cyber and Security at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The event focused on the theme ‘Cyber and Security’ and brought together defence industry leaders, key defence contractors, and business experts to discuss the current risks and strategies to improve security in the industry.
The event featured a range of speakers from government representatives, industry representatives, primes, and small and medium enterprises. Following the formalities, attendees had the opportunity to participate in tailored activities, including presentations and a networking session.
The first presentation was delivered by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) on “the espionage and foreign interference threat to the defence industry.” Attendees also heard from Xavier O’Malley from the Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre (CISC), Mark Cowan-Aston discussing the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP), Paul Smooker from x-RD technology solutions, and the delegation from Redinent from India.
All speakers shared their knowledge and insights into the current risks facing the defence industry and the steps organisations can take to mitigate them, regardless of their size or stage in supplying for defence. Although some of the information presented was confronting, attendees received real insight to the current threat.
The afternoon networking session provided SMEs with the opportunity to participate in a B2B networking session and attend a one-on-one session with an ODIS Defence Industry Adviser.
Overall, the ODIS 2023 Forum on Cyber and Security was a success in providing valuable information to attendees and facilitating networking opportunities. Thank you to the ODIS team for facilitating a successful event.
