SEMMA has responded to the Victorian Government’s Renewable Gas Consultation Paper with a perspective on the ambitious goal of transitioning to entirely renewable energy sources for the industry by 2035.
While SEMMA appreciates the noble aim of a greener future, we emphasize the potential prohibitive costs faced by our members and wider industry when it comes to upgrading or acquiring new plant equipment to meet this target.
In light of these economic challenges, SEMMA advocates for a phased approach, strongly endorsing government financial support as an essential component of a successful transition towards renewable energy. This measured approach ensures that the industry can embrace sustainability without compromising its economic viability.
