Bombardier celebrates VLocity trains project milestone – June 2nd
On June 2, the Bombardier team was joined by State Member for Dandenong, Gabrielle Williams, and members from Public Transport Victoria, V/Line and local industry to celebrate two significant milestones for the VLocity DMU Regional Trains project in Dandenong.
Completed five months ahead of contract schedule, Bombardier delivered the final 43 VLocity carriages ordered as part of the Regional Rail Link, as well as the completion of the Refresh Program which saw the introduction of new intermediate carriages convert the VLocity trains from two to three carriage sets standard.
Bombardier achieved 66.5% local content across the VLocity project which employs 118 highly skilled, direct manufacturing jobs at Dandenong, and another 200+ direct maintenance jobs across Bombardier’s West Melbourne, Ballarat and Geelong sites. Overall the VLocity project has supported over 580 jobs across the wider industry in Victoria.
The recent Victorian Government 2016-17 State Budget announcement for 27 additional VLocity cars will keep those 118 manufacturing jobs in Dandenong and more than 200 direct maintenance jobs across Victoria secured for the next 12 months.
